I named my podcast after my book, Swollen, Bloated and Puffy

Kathleen Lisson, CMT, CLT

Hello, my name is Kathleen Lisson. I am a Board Certified massage therapist in San Diego.

My Current Social Media:

I have a website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and have shot some Youtube videos to promote my business.

What’s next: Podcasting.

The trouble? Every article, interview, etc I have heard/read/watched focuses on the need for editing, expensive equipment and it all seems like a huge hassle.

What would make me start podcasting: something free, using equipment I already own and taking less than 15 minutes a day.

Really. I know — impossible, right?

Why podcasting? My husband and I started listening to podcasts instead of the radio when we go on road trips. Then I discovered that I could listen to podcasts while I was at the gym. To get the full message, Youtube needs undivided attention. You have to be looking at a screen to click on a link in Twitter, like a photo on Instagram and see a sponsored post on Facebook.

With podcasting, you can listen to someone’s message while you’re eyes are on something else and you’re bored. Driving, exercise, doing chores.

Luckily, I am a fan of Gary Vaynerchuck and I listened to a recent interview he gave for Anchor. Anchor is free app that records my voice from my iphone, offers free background music for the podcast, prompts me to give the podcast a title and description, publishes the episode on the Anchor app and (if I want) creates a podcast that is searchable on Apple.

Go ahead, pull up your podcast app on your iphone and search for ‘Swollen Bloated and Puffy.’ That’s the name of my podcast.

Sign up for the Swollen, Bloated and Puffy podcast and check out the sound quality. Listen to it for a week to get an idea of the topics I’m covering as a massage therapist.

My top tip for Massage Therapists starting a podcast:

Get a piece of paper and spend ten minutes writing down every question you get asked by clients and friends. Those are the topics of your 5 minute podcast. Every day, make a 5 minute podcast of you answering one question, giving value to your listeners just like you do to your clients.

I’ll leave the SEO advice to massage business experts. I’ll just implore you to listen to my podcast, and if it inspires you, create one of your own and leave the name of your podcast in the comments.
